Dance Theatre, an eclectic dance company at Miami University, performs a major concert each semester, showcasing boldly innovative and diverse choreography and utilizing the talents of guest artists, faculty and students. The Winter concert is November 16 at 7:30pm and November 17 at 2:00 in the Wilks Theater located in the Armstrong Student Center.
This semester Dance Theatre is featuring guest artist Janna Kotze, winner of a Bessie for best emerging choreographer a few years ago. An alumni of Miami, she strives to inform her work with spatial depth and full use of the performing space . Liza Torrence and Kendall Nelson also return to their alma mater to set contemporary works using imagery and music that often appeals to the senses and the dancers’ state of mind.
With a guest lighting designer from CCM and a dance, PULSE, featuring the 7 new company members, choreographed by artistic director Lana kay Rosenberg and accompanied live by Harvey Thurmer, principle violinist at Miami, the concert will be a vehicle for both the talent of the dancers and choreographers as well as for the sight and sound created particularly for this space.
